WHICH RESPIRATOR MASK PROTECTS AGAIN ASBESTOS?
The Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances 519* stipulate different minimum requirements for respiratory protection depending on the number of asbestos fibers in the air:

» Mask with blower and P1 filter
» FFP2 mask (activities under 2 hours)
» Half masks with P3 filter
FFP2 masks may only be used for short activities of less than 2 hours if the concentration of asbestos fibers in the air is below 100,000/m³. For longer activities, half masks with a P2 filter or masks with a blower and P1 filter must be used.

An FFP3 mask is only permitted for work lasting less than two hours if the fiber concentration is less than 300,000 fibers/m³. For all other activities, half masks with a P3 filter or masks with a blower and P2 filter must be used.

From 300,000 asbestos fibers/m³ in the air, full-face masks with a blower and P3 filter must be used. By sucking in the blower, the outside air is passed through the P3 particle filter, which enables a high filter performance without breathing resistance.

With an isolation device (ambient-independent breathing apparatus), the breathing air is not supplied from outside, but is provided via compressed air. This respiratory protection is mandatory from a concentration of over 4,000,000 fibers/m³.
Up to 10,000 asbestos fibers/m³ of air, a half-mask with a P2 filter can be used. This is also the current acceptable concentration,
below which there is only a low risk for employees according to the Federal Environment Agency. Also available in our range.
At values above 10,000 fibers per cubic meter, the employer is obliged to take appropriate protective measures.
WHICH PROTECTIVE SUITS PROTECT DURINGG ASBESTOS REMOVAL?
Protective equipment is divided into three different categories in accordance with European Directive 89/686/EEC*:
Category 1 – Protection against minor risks
Category 2 – Standard protection against mechanical risks
Category 3 – Protection against fatal hazards and irreversible damage to health
Only category 3 protective suits may be used for work with asbestos! This is also the only one of the three categories for which regular spot checks of the protective equipment must be carried out.n.
Category 3 protective suits are divided into different types. A single protective suit can have several types.
The Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances 519* prescribe the use of Category 3 – Type 5 + 6 protective suits when handling asbestos.
Bei Sprühnebel und Feuchtigkeit müssen Schutzanzüge der Kategorie 3 – Typ 5 + 6 eingesetzt werden. Sofern möglich sollten Einweganzüge eingesetzt werden, die nach dem Entfernen des Arbeitsplatzes entsorgt werden müssen. Diese Regeln für Schutzkleidung gelten für sämtliche Arbeiten, bei denen die Arbeitskleidung in Kontakt mit asbesthaltigem Material kommen kann. Die Schutzanzüge müssen auch getragen werden, wenn kein direkter Kontakt mit Asbest besteht, jedoch die Konzentration von Asbestfasern in der Luft über 10.000 Fasern/m³ liegen kann.
